Projects / Shianda Area
Shianda
is a high-density area in Mumias East Constituency (pop. ~100,000) facing
critical social and economic challenges:
Challenges We Are Solving
· Poverty &
Unemployment: High reliance on subsistence
farming with limited market power.
· Education
Barriers: Over 75% secondary dropout risks
due to fee shortages, forced marriages, early pregnancies, child labor, and
long walk distances.
· Health Crises: High HIV/AIDS prevalence, requiring active stigma
reduction, orphan support, and home-based care.
· Gender
Inequality: Traditional cultural constraints
limiting women's economic independence and participation.
Projects
1. Support for Vulnerable Children & Schools
· Scholarships: Partnering with NGO Mondo to cover school fees, uniforms,
and learning supplies for over 100 primary and 16 secondary students from
high-need backgrounds.
· Infrastructure
Upgrades: Provided desks, chairs, mattresses,
and sanitation facilities to Khabakaya Primary, Rise & Shine Special
School, Mung’ang’a Secondary, and Eshiakulo Secondary.

crop storage and market leverage to prevent distressed sales during harvest
seasons.
· Handicrafts &
Tailoring: Training women to create fair-trade
jewelry and school uniforms for European and local Kenyan markets.
3. Capacity Building & Community Outreach

maize production, poultry care, and dairy management.
· Environmental
& Cultural Links: Distributed 5,000 trees for local
reforestation and led cross-cultural blogging initiatives showcasing
traditional Luhya heritage.
